A new Visual Basic Script worm spread rapidly via E-mail and the ICQ instant-messaging system last week, shutting down most antivirus and desktop security applications and leaving machines vulnerable to future hacking or additional viruses. If the attached file is opened, the worm, dubbed Goner, tries to destroy all security applications. Secure E-mail company MessageLabs says it has stopped more than 80,000 copies of Goner with its antivirus software, and it's seeing the virus arrive with one out of every 30 E-mails.
