Internet security continued to attract venture capital last week as Ingrian Networks landed $22 million in second-round funding from American Express, Prism Venture Partners, and others.

Ingrian specializes in securing Web content, wherever it is. By combining security with caching, acceleration of traffic protected by Secure Sockets Layer, and content switching, Ingrian's offerings ensure that content is secure while in transit over the Web and in a company's back-end databases. The products also provide content encryption and validation, intrusion detection, security certificates, and public-and private-key management.

Ingrian will focus on building more of those types of services into products, says Jim Vogt, president and CEO. "The convergence between networking security and applications is happening very quickly," he says, and Ingrian has positioned itself to fulfill those needs.
